At a groundbreaking ceremony on August 13 at the site of the future Gansett Meadow affordable rental apartment complex, at 531 Montauk Highway in Amagansett, officials and dignitaries --  from County Exective Steve Bellone to County Legislator Bridget Fleming, East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc, and Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal -- spoke of the challenges in getting such a project off the ground, lauding the East Hampton Housing Authority and its director, Katy Casey, along with the authority's development partner, Georgica Green Ventures, for the success.

Working together, they said, across levels of government and through the public-private partnership, was key.

Funding was obtained from state and federal agencies along with the Community Preservation Corporation and several banks.

The project will include 36 apartments (12 one-bedroom, 12 two-bedroom, and 12 three-bedroom) as well as a four-bedroom common house with a meeting room, laundry facilities, barbecue patio, and playground.
