Under an Executive Order issued by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, all businesses designated "non-essential" by the state must cease operation by 8 p.m on March 22, 2020, an effort to keep the workforce at home to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The list of essential businesses that can continue operating can be found here:  https://esd.ny.gov/guidance-executive-order-2026
They are defined by the state as "any business providing products or services that are required to maintain the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of New York State."

Landscaping  has been deemed an "essential business" according to the county and state.

Businesses not included on the state’s "essential business" list may apply to the state for a waiver at https://esd.ny.gov/sites/default/files/Request%20for%20Designation%20Form_0.pdf
East Hampton business owners who submit a waiver request are advised to inform Amy Keyes, County Executive Steve Bellone’s assistant county executive for intergovernmental relations, of their application, for tracking, by sending an email to Amy.Keyes@suffolkcountyny.gov
